Cacao Tea Co.’s Organic Cacao Tea

I don’t cozy up to a cup of tea. I’ve always been a coffee drinker. But with a diagnose of GERD, I’ve got to manage my condition and that means making choices that don’t exacerbate my condition, while allowing for some flexibility. While I strive to limit caffeine (including coffee, tea), chocolate, excess sugars, spices and citrus in my daily diet, I’ve found that a lifestyle balance is key. That means complete restriction is not the best choice for me – especially if I want to manage my stress and “eat freely”. So I pick my battles and if I’ve decided to have a small ‘cup of Joe’ or a little chocolate, I do my best to limit the other trigger foods.

Enter Cacoa Tea from Cacao Tea Co. No this is not actually a tea. Tea is technically made from the leaves of a shrub known as Camelia Sinensis. This is made from Cacao Husks. So it imparts the delightful flavor of chocolate (without the calories, fat or added sugars of traditional drinking chocolate) in a soothing caffeine-free beverage. And while it is not coffee, either, it delivers a rich flavor that welcomes latte as I whip up one of my favorite non-dairy milks (or a combo of two).

I’ve had the opportunity to try this product for an honest review. So I tried it 3 ways. First I simply brewed it as instructed on the package by steeping 1-2 teaspoons (I used 2) in freshly boiled water for 5 minutes. It smelled like heavenly chocolate and the sip – it was nice. Then I prepared it as I would a cold brew. I served it up with a little ice and just a touch of almond milk the way I enjoy my cold brew coffees. I thought, even better! Finally, I took my cold brew, heat it and served it up with my frothy foam of plant-based milk (I like the combo of coconut milk and almond milk the best – I mix the two) and it was just the way I like it.

Free of Sugar, Dairy and Gluten, this product is a nice alternative to coffee or tea. As a self-proclaimed chocolate lover, it has the distinct essence of chocolate flavor. Being that it is made from 100% cocoa husks upon straining the liquid, it is so tempting to take a lick from the cacao residue.

Would I recommend this product! Of course! Can it replace my desire for coffee, maybe not quite. But I can say that it is a delicious warm beverage I can definitely enjoy!
