Here’s what it contains:

  • Recipes that are less acidic. (Please note: Some ingredients like cranberries are naturally acidic, but I’ve carefully designed my recipes to use smaller amounts of said items and combined with less acidic foods and more neutral foods like almonds/almond milk.)
  • Recipes with less fat that traditional treats.
  • Recipes that contain whole food ingredients.
  • Recipes that contain no refined white sugars.
  • Recipes that are simple and tasty.
  • Recipes that have been tried, tested and approved by my family, including my 10-year-old twins (and others who don’t have acid reflux).
  • Recipes that contain no citrus, no caffeine, no chocolate!

Here’s my story:

As a registered dietitian heathy, well balanced eating comes second nature. So I was completely surprised when almost half a year ago I experienced intense irritation in my throat, sudden difficulty swallowing, a lump-like sensation and even shortness of breath after eating. What was going on? I went to the doctor, and after some tests she told me that I had silent reflux. It turns out that as much as 30% percent of the population has GERD – Gastroesophagheal Reflux Disease (in other words chronic, medically-diagnosed acid reflux). And many people with reflux issues remain undiagnosed. So even though I had been eating a really healthy diet I had the tell-tale symptoms of reflux for the past several years and didn’t even know it.

Fortunately I’ve been able to reverse the damage and heal my throat through a specialized diet that addresses acid reflux and gives your body a chance to heal. That meant cutting out highly acidic foods, sugar, caffeine, citrus and chocolate.

Today I am much improved and am able to incorporate some of these foods back into my diet (albeit a limited basis) and with the holidays coming, I wanted to be sure I could come up with some yummy treats that wouldn’t cause relapse of my initial symptoms. Thus the Acid Reflux Survival Guide was born.

This book is the first in a series of yummy acid watchers diet recipes that I’ve developed. With tips on what to eat even when you are going out.

Though the last half of the year has been challenging because of this, it’s given me first hand experience in addressing what can be a very tricky health issue. It is a subject of concern that many people have, yet sadly it is hardly discussed.

It is now my mission to spread helpful information about reflux and healing and to make nutrisavvyhealth.com a safe haven for people who are suffering from this disease. I’d love to hear from you and your journey as I share mine. And I will continue to post tips, tools and guidelines that have helped me live with my disease and recover from the symptoms of silent reflux.

Have a joyous and lovely Holiday Season!
