If you’ve ever made your own granola, you may have found that a low temperature with frequent tossing of the mixture helps keep the texture/browing even and prevent an over-cooked taste. Well, if you didn’t know, now you do! But that’s not the tip I’m giving you today.
Wanna know how to save on waste? Kill two birds with one stone, the next time you open up those canned peaches (or any canned fruit), use the drained juice to sweeten your homemade granola. You’ll get 1/2 cup juice from a 15-oz canned if Darin those peaches completely. And if you use 100% fruit sweetened juice, you can cut back on the highly refined sugars / added sugars. That doesn’t mean you won’t add in a little maple syrup or honey, it just means, you can use less.
Here’s my recipe for a peachy keen granola:

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup canned peach juice*
- 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 Tablespoon peanut butter all natural (just peanuts and salt)
- 1 Tablespoon + 1 tsp melted butter
- 1/3 cup Manitoba Harvest hemp hearts or your favorite seeds
- 2 cups raw oats
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250º F.
- Line a pan with parchment or foil.
- In a bowl, combine peach juice, maple syrup, peanut butter and melted butter and blend until smooth.
- Add in hemp hearts, oats, sea salt and cinnamon and mix until well combined.
- Spread mixture evenly into pan.
- Bake for 40 minutes to an hours, turning granola with a spatula every 10 minutes to achieve even golden color.
- Do not overcook
